Saint Nicolas Island: A Nature Reserve to explore !
The discovery of the Narcisse des Glénan was made in the 19th century by Mr Bonnemaison, a pharmacist from Quimper. This discovery attracted many botanists, curious to observe this small green setting where this plant endemic to the Breton archipelago grows. Quite abundant on the island of Saint Nicolas, at the beginning of the 20th century, the population of Narcissus continued to decline following the massive gathering and wild uprooting perpetrated by locals and other curious people wishing to take a souvenir of their visit to the island.
It was not until 1974 that the Society for the Study and Protection of Nature in Brittany (SEPNB), the Town Hall of Fouesnant, the Department and the Botanical Conservatory of Brest decided to protect this little narcissus and created a nature reserve on Saint Nicolas.
Thanks to this initiative it is now possible for nature lovers and botanical enthusiasts to admire this plant with its distinctive yellow petals, to learn more about its environment as well as the biodiversity and history of Saint Nicolas, by enjoying a nature outing in the company of an experienced guide, Lulu.
With Lulu, you will walk along the footpath of Saint Nicolas Island to discover the natural environment and the island environment of the Glénan; you will learn how to observe with delicacy and precision the beauty of the Narcissus, this fragile flower, as well as its ecosystem. A real experience to be lived with Lulu, passionate and exciting for all!
To get the most out of your Nature Outing, we advise you to bring your camera and why not your binoculars!
*The flowering of the Narcissus is subject to weather conditions. It evolves from the end of March to the end of April depending on the year.
